Personal ::: Snow Day

Well if you live in the state of Washington, you already know that we've closed down today, due to the big snowstorm. Rightfully so, as we have upwards of 8 inches in most areas, and 25 inches in some. It actually is a legitimate snowstorm!! haha! Unfortunately, my poor children do not have any proper snow gear, as it is all in NY. My mom always offers to send it, but 99.9% of the time it is pointless...and then I just have to lug it back to the East Coast. Oh well, they're kids...they have a Snow Day...and they've had a blast! :)

...this is a bit of a 'love it' post as well as a 'feature' post as I want to feature this company that I am completely in love and obsessed with. The company is Moo (www.moo.com)...supplying marketing tools for your business. Everything about their company is user friendly and their products, website, displays, and ideas are so creative! Ugh! I love it! A really special feature is that they have what's called printfinity where you can print up to 100 different images on the back of your business cards. For an artist or photographer, this is Amazing because it's always hard to choose just one image to represent you while printing cards. I especially love their mini cards since they are different and memorable and cute! So I started printing mini cards for 2 businesses and I loved them so much that I decided to use them for my personal Christmas cards this year! I can't even tell you how much I loved these cards. Everyone got 10 in their envelope and my hope was that they enjoyed playing with them half as much as I do. I love this family and they recently moved away to California. So fun that they called me while they were here for Christmas so we could sneak in a shoot...it rained and rained, but we managed to stay dry under a nice shelter in the sweet apple orchard. Last time I saw Tripp he was a 'toddler' and now he is 'kid'! So cute!! I love it!! I always love to see how these kids grow from photo shoot to photo shoot. I'm so lucky! :) Love this first photo...

But this really captures his personality...

Being from the East Coast, the fall colors of the Pacific Northwest typically don't impress me, but have you noticed how beautiful the leaves are this year!! Every day I see another gorgeous hue of red...and against the bright blue sky with the sun shining...it is just stunning! This family wanted to capture the colors of the turning leaves and we were able to do that in the city. But the most beautiful color of all was the rich chestnut of these children's eyes!! I've had an overwhelming response to the absence of my blog posts. People asking where and why I've gone. (I really had no idea so many people were reading it!) First of all, THANK YOU to all of you who emailed me to let me know. I have to say, it did make me smile :) So... with the start of school and fall...I am also going to commence my blogging! Yay!

And because a post is no fun without a photo...I've posted a few...a few of my boys. The story is that I wanted to get a couple quick snapshots of a smiley, happy photo for their birthday invitations. So, I took them outside...took a couple shots of the younger boys...

My oldest has found his passion for golf. He absolutely loves everything about the sport. He practices diligently almost every day with the goal of playing in tournaments. He just completed his first tournament last weekend and it was an incredible experience for him. Truly amazing! I only got to sneak a few photos on the last 2 holes in between the downpours...but this next photo I just love. These 10-12 year olds just look like old pros. Love it.

And there is my 'artiste'...my middle boy who adores painting or creating anything artistic. These photos were taken in NY while he was working on one of his creations. I was able to catch a few moments that are precious to me.

Ahhh Ace. Such a smart and sweet little soon to be 5-year-old. It never fails...every time a mom contacts me to schedule a shoot for their little one's next milestone...I can hardly believe that that amount of time has passed! Didn't I just shoot Ace's 4 year old shoot??! I guess each time I photograph a child, their age gets ingrained in my mind and I then have no concept of time. And I should know better since I have children of my own!! Oh well, it's always fun for me to see how the child has grown...so here is Ace...enjoy! :)

I don't think I could be any luckier!! I get to photograph the most wonderful families with the most gorgeous children...and really, I don't think it gets any better than that! I feel privileged to watch these families grow while documenting these precious milestones. This is another family that I've photographed for years, whom I adore. Baby Evie is turning 1, and has grown up so much since the last time I saw her...

She arrived with her little pink cardigan, rolled up jeans, pink and gray shoes, along with her flower accessory...I could hardly stand it!!!

Well, I decided to try something new. I realized that I am not able to update my blog as often as I would like to...I think the reason is because I choose so many photos for a sneak peek and it is such a big process that it just doesn't happen as frequently. So to simplify things AND post photos consistently, I have a new space where I will posting a 'Photo of the Day.' There won't be any titles or text...just pure photos...and only 1 - every day. I'm excited! But just because there won't be any text or thoughts from me...your comments, questions, and feedback are welcome!

The 'photo of the day' from 5.21.10 below...

After a shoot, usually you can't wait to get home to unload the photos and look through them. There are the photos that make your heart skip a beat while you are taking them, and then there are always those shots that jump out at you immediately while looking through them at first glance (your favorites). But then there are those little gems that somehow get past you the first time around. And later, when you find one, you can't imagine how you could have missed it. This is one of those gems.

Here's a shoot that I am able to share from Florida. I think I'll call it 'urban at the beach' ...I love that! I loved photographing children in Florida...very fun, although different from Washington, you have to be aware of the hot and bright sun and plan accordingly for the shoot. I will say that Washington's typically cloudy sky does provide perfect lighting!! Anyway, I will be back in the Florida area (Tampa and Cocoa Beach, that is) from July 1-21st and will be scheduling shoots during that time. Please contact me if you are interested. Has it really been over a month since I posted!! That is ridiculous! Well, a good excuse is that I was on vacation for half of it...but there shouldn't be any (excuses, that is). Ahh, another baby named after a musician (I love that!) since mom and dad are true jazz lovers! Oh, and is he sweet! Honestly, one of the things I love best about photographing a newborn is that you really get to see a glimpse of their personality shining through...even at days and weeks old. Of course, every parent knows this and sees it with their own children. But I also get to see this with each newborn that I photograph, and I think it is really special. This little guy was so calm and sweet and smart. You'll see how he followed me everywhere...as long as he was awake, he was looking right at me! Almost impossible to choose which photo to post first, but I think I have to go with this favorite...this moment was absolutely incredible as Miles completely relaxed himself, got comfortable, and gazed straight into my camera! Your heart skips a beat when these beautiful moments occur. Enjoy!

Here we are in March already and there are so many things that I love that I didn't get to post in February! Well, I decided that I'm not going to limit myself to 'love posts' only in Feb. but continue the trend throughout the year! And here is one of them. I have been waiting to photograph these girls for years (literally)! Ahhh, and I finally got my chance last week...so exciting!! 'I Adore You'

...one of my favorite tunes on her album, Esperanza Spalding is incredible and I Adore Her. I was more than thrilled to see her LIVE in Seattle a couple weeks ago. I anticipated correctly that one night would definitely not be enough for me to see her, and so, made reservations for three (nights). One for myself, one with the entire family, and one with just my husband. Oh, what a lucky girl I am and what an amazing 3 nights it was! (still not enough, but that's OK, there will be more :) She is an absolutely gifted musician, an amazing singer, and an incredible performer! I was only able to take a few shots from my seat, but I did want to share. Perhaps I'll really be able to photograph her one day!

I Love Warm Weather

Ahhh, a touch of warm weather in the last couple days has given me hope! I love the sun and I love the heat! The thought of swimming year round along with golf and tennis thrills me! Sandals always, tank tops all year...that is perfection for me. I just planned our trip to Florida for Spring Break and I am very excited. We need these little things to look forward to in life, don't you think?! 5 weeks and counting! :) In fact, I have even booked a couple shoots...specifically in Tampa and I am welcoming more. The last days I have available are March 26th and 27th, so if you live in Tampa or knows someone who does, please contact me to get scheduled. I am very excited to shoot at this destination.
On to the photos...so in the spirit of warm weather and sunshine, I have some photos of my precious boys from this past summer...photos that I never got to post! They were taken in Port Townsend (another love of mine :)) Hope you enjoy!

I LOVE Pregnant Women

I feel an immediate connection when I see an expecting mother. Even if there is no interaction, but I merely catch a glimpse of a mother-to-be walking down the street as I drive by...it puts a smile on my face and for that very brief second I remember the incredible feeling that is when you are pregnant and your precious baby is growing inside you. It is truly a miracle and more.
OK, so how lucky am I, then, that I get to photograph pregnant women! I love that as well!
You don't see many pregnant 'sneak peeks' here because they are intimate and private, but these special moms have allowed me to share a few of my favorite photos of them for this special blog post. Thanks again, girls! :) I do adore these photos! Enjoy.

I HEART Musicians

I believe I've mentioned that. And I do LOVE photographing them as well! I was lucky to be able to go with my husband to one of his gigs last weekend (I'm rarely able to do that anymore). I had such a great time. Ugh. I always love hearing him play. The gig was at a great restaurant in North Bend called Boxley's...the new owner (a musician himself) has LIVE music every night of the week!! Imagine that?!! ...So, I decided to bring my camera to take some photos of the band. I wanted to take the photos without a flash for that authentic feel, and I absolutely LOVE the grain and grittiness...to me, it reveals the truth and speaks volumes. This first photo makes my heart skip a beat. I LOVE being able to capture those moments of passion...oh and there are so many of them. Enjoy...

JUMP!

Another wonderful family I've known for years who I hadn't seen since little Miss K was a baby! It was fantastic to see them and we had fun in the city. We lucked out with an unusually warm day in November. There are so many favorites I can't even begin to post them all. I had to limit myself...and I could barely do that!

I was waiting for this shot all day...I have a shot like this when she was a baby...a quiet moment with just the two of us while she told me about her shell collection, and there it was. Notice her gorgeous eyelashes and how they are different (one blond, one brunette)...I adore this!

OK...we started out jumping and ended in a big, long jumping finale!! A couple highlights...

Giving Thanks

I am so thankful for so many things in my life. My amazing boys, my wonderful husband, and my incredible family and friends are the true joys of my life. With that said, I also feel so lucky that I get to do something that I am passionate about...and while doing it I get to meet and work with such fantastic families! It really is quite something and I truly feel blessed!
This sneak peek is for one of those fantastic families! When discussing possible locations, Katie suggested the Capitol Campus in Olympia and I was thrilled. You would never know that it was pouring during this entire shoot because we were under cover in the front of the building! Wow, talk about being lucky! The lighting was gorgeous and the architecture stunning! It did get cold for these precious little girls but they were troopers! I will definitely be back to photograph there again!

Here's a little secret...

Cancel and reschedule your outdoor shoot in advance because you are worried about rain and you will get sunshine! This happened recently...it had been raining for days straight (as it tends to do in Washington) and we were certain that it would continue. Well, we woke up on the day of the shoot and it was a beautiful sunny day and thankfully we were able to restore our original plan! The lighting couldn't have been more fantastic...and the family was wonderful. I always love to see the unique mix of each child within a family...there were so many gorgeous combinations among this trio...take a look...

I met this little guy when he was just a baby and haven't seen him in years! He's now 4 1/2 and just a doll. It was so great to see him and his sweet family again. We had fun on our Urban Shoot...check it out...

We went downtown to photograph Henry for his 1 year session. This weather continues to be spectacular, so we lucked out! Henry was so cute and definitely directed us all! One of my favorites from the day...

I believe Henry is in training to be the next little star quarterback...check out this form!

And like any star, had to go down the line to get his high fives!!!

The Birthing Inn...where families are born

I had mentioned that The Birthing Inn was celebrating its 10th Birthday. I was thrilled to be asked to photograph the party. I have to say that I was in heaven...so many precious babies and beautiful children were there and I got to photograph them all! Ooo it was fun...

I couldn't wait to post this. These kids are too cute! I had so much fun photographing them and they loved the camera! Typically I love black and white but these colors were so fantastic that I left most of them that way. Too many to post and this is a long one, but check it out and enjoy!

Well, at least that was the inspiration for this shot...completely! This is my sweet and beautiful baby sister. I know, not so 'baby' anymore, but of course, she'll always be to me! We had a fantastic week of shopping, hanging out, enjoying the boys (my boys, her nephews), dancing, more shopping and just doing what sisters do! We did get to sneak in a photo shoot in between the rain. In fact, this day was the most beautiful of them all during her stay. Ugh, I wish I lived closer to BOTH of my sisters! We just have so much fun together!!!
Too many favorites to count, but this is definitely one of the 'tops'!

What a beautiful family! The children are 12-year old triplets...and they were so sweet! I do love this setting at the 'red barn'...gorgeous lighting and very relaxed. It's becoming very popular with my families :) I love the photos of this family...check them out...

I love taking a moment for mom and dad...it is so often that they are forgotten!

I was asked to recreate a childhood photo of the triplets...classic! Love it! It will be fun to compare the two!
